With regard to insurance companies and breast pumps, our hospital risk management told us that if one is a licensed DME and filing with insurance companies, the liability risk is different because the pump is considered 'medical equipment' and they did not want to assume that risk (?) When they learned that we did not plan to bill insurance directly but let the moms seek reimbursement, they had no problem with us renting pumps. Maybe one of our lawyer LC's on the list could speak to this further...
