Last night in NJ, a breastfeeding mother of a 2 yo was arrested. Her
rageaholic, alcoholic husband came after her while she was holding the
baby - in defending herself, she scratched his face. 911 was called.
When the police arrived, the mother was arrested b/c the scratches on
the fathers face were visible.

Thanks for the clarification. In the end, the father was arrested as
well, but not before her 23 mo old son saw her being handcuffed, taken
away crying - while he screamed hysterically at the top of his lungs.

When the dad realized the mom was being arrested, he pleaded wtih them,
"no she didn't do anything wrong. he can't be separated from her. you
can't arrest her. he can't be away from his mother."

later, the dad was arrested for harassment (he has a prior arrest for
harassment as well.....many yrs before they met), he was able to bring
the baby to the police station with him. The mother was not allowed to
even though she asked. When dad arrived, he gave the still hysterically
screaming baby to his mother. Eventually, the police took mother and
baby to the hospital so that the mother could have pics and xrays
taken. While he never hit her, he sat on her so that she couldn't leave
the house, and pinned her in a bear hug until she coudln't breathe.

Social services will be involved. Legal and general advice is needed.
Anyone have resources in the Morris County NJ area? Mom is trying to
figure out how to handle this....including the long term issues of a
probable divorce and resulting custody issues. Anyone with expertise
in this area? Referrals to anyone with expertise in this area?
