Thank you for sending in this confirmation about the AAP's
unequivocal endorsement of breastfeeding, particularly in so far as
the 2005 AAP statement is concerned. I've cited this fairly often in
breastfeeding advocacy writings. You raise an important point that
I've often wondered about. The recommendation is there, and it's
clear. WHY aren't paediatricians obligated to read and follow their
own professional organization's stand on breastfeeding??? Could it
be concluded that, if they don't, then there is something of an
ethical issue here?

I am delighted the AAP said what it did about the Atlantic article - a great
step forward! I know Dr. Tayloe (Pres, AAP) personally - this is a huge
step for him.

Please read the 2005 AAP Policy statement - it is UNEQUIVOCAL in its message
that breastfeeding and human milk are the standards, and all pediatricians
and other healthcare professionals should recommend and support it. Now all
we need to do is to get all the pediatricians to READ and FOLLOW it
