Over the past year I have seen an increase of mums wanting to relactate
after having stopped because of wrong info, pain related to breastfeeding
etc. They are any where from a few days to 11months since baby was at the
breast. If a baby is willing to go to the breast we keep them there with a
supplementer until sufficient supply. Lots of skin to skin time & bathing
with baby. Our mums usually start on the herbs fenugreek, blessed thistle
and allaité (Quebec galactagogue mix) caps, and depending how long it has
been the doctors will prescribe Domperidone. When the mums see results it
encourages them to want to continue. I also work with lots of breast
reduction mums and adoptive mums wanting to breastfeed and in gereral they
do and we support them until they are ready to go solo. We are always only
a phone call or a clinic or home visit away. I was surprised by the
comment "she doesn't have the means to rent an electric breastpump" If this
baby goes home on artificial baby milk where is she going to get the means
to pay for that, its double the price of breastpump rental (in montreal
anyway). Is there not a WIC program in her area?
