Another reason to be cautious in donating milk to primate research is that
human milk is valuable in part because it can provide totipotent stem cells--for
use in cloning. A scientist named Dr. Don P. Wolf from the Oregon Regional
Primate Research Center (part of Oregon Health Sciences University) is cloning
rhesus monkeys to be used in hiv vaccine trials. Thus it is entirely possible
that they may be using human cells (from breastmilk) to create cloned lab
animals for experimentation. This may or may not be the reason for primate
researchers wanting human milk but it certainly is a possibility.

Another interesting fact in regard to this particular university--Oregon
Health Sciences University is that Dr. Paul Lewis is(not sure if he still is) the
pediatric director of the hiv clinic there. He testified against Kathleen
Tyson (who tested hiv positive during her pregnancy) in the court case in which
Tyson was ordered to not breastfeed and to use antiretrovirals against her
wishes. This university seems to have some interesting research going on that
might mean that they have certain biases and financial investments in infant
formula research...just interesting, ironic, and tragic as far as I am concerned.
