I did a search of the archives and found about equal numbers of replies
saying "it's dangerous, but the benefits of BFing--even on a mom having
filling removed--still outweigh the risk of exposure to mercury" and those
that said "avoid the filling removal until baby is weaned or very nearly
so".

I am working with a mom of an 8 month old who has 2 molars with fillings
in them and her dentist (a holistic DDS) has told her the removal cannot
wait until she is done breastfeeding. Mother is, of course, concerned and
the DDS has informed her that other mothers have pumped and dumped for 3
days after this procedure. This mother would like to avoid even that--as
baby has not/will not take even pumped milk in any container other than
the breast!

Mother is also concerned about the detox program the DDS has recommended,
but I will check what I can in Hale.

Any advice and/or references more recent than June of 1998 (the
most-recent LactNet post I found) would be much appreciated!

Thank you,
