Hi Everyone,
We are having a meeting next week with NICU and Infection Control about
pumping, pump cleaning, handling of breastmilk in hospital (while mom is in
hospital and at home) and storage of breastmilk while mom is at home and en
route to hospital. (Frozen or fresh - some nurses dump the milk if it is
brought in fresh and not in a cooler and would like to see in brought in
only frozen). If anyone could email or fax your hospital policies on these
I would be very grateful. They are especially interested in what other
large, metropolitan hospitals are doing but any information will be of help.
This all came about after twin preemies contracted staph and they feel
it is from the breastmilk. Now they want to change all the policies. I have
given them information from many sources but this is what the infection
control officer asked me to find. Thank you. Judith Markham IBCLC RLC RLL
