Jan - THE NEW HOLISTIC HERBAL by David Hoffmann writes: Marigold
(Calendula officinalis). Part used: Yellow petal (florets).
Collection: Either the whole flower tops or just the petals are
collected between June and September. Actions: anti-inflammatory,
astringent, vulnerary, anti-fungal, cholagogue, emmenagogue.
Preparation: Marigold ointment: Take 2 oz. of freshly-picked
marigold flowers + 7 oz. of lanolin. Melt the lanolin over low
heat, add the marigold flowers and bring mixture to boil. Simmer
very gently about 10 min. stirring well. Sift through fine gauze
and press out all liquid from flowers. Pour liquid into a
container and seal it after it has cooled. Fascinating, this
herbal stuff, isn't it? There are no marigolds in Israel that I
know about, at least not like in US - could someone try this out
on thrush and let me know how it works? If it's the supercure
that we've all been waiting for, I'll try growing marigolds in
my back yard, by gum!
Rita - What do you think about this recipe? You know much more
than I do about herbals. Many years ago, in desperation when my
kid's ringworm (gift from adorable stray kittycat) didn't respond
to dr's ointment, I walked a few yards from my house and cut aloe
cactus and spread juice (sap?) directly on infection. It was gone
in a few days. Got interested again when bf moms started telling
me about all kinds of teas they gave their babies. I also am very
interested in learning more herbal medicine/therapy. Thanks. Judy
