Jessica: My son sounds exactly like your child. He took the bottle OK
until about 6-7 weeks then refused. At 3 months I had to return to work.
I worked 12 hour days (was away from him for 14 w/travel time) I brought
him to day care with bottles of milk and picked him up with bottles
remaining, many days he would only drink 1-2 oz the entire time I was
gone. But have faith and don't do anything drastic yet. At about 5 1/2
months he decided it was eat or be hungry and he started taking the bottle
grudginly for about 2 weeks, then at 6 months we introduced cereal and he
never took another bottle, he ate his cereal at daycare and breastfed at
home, I don't know if you are familiar with "Juice Boxes" but we discovered
that he drank 100% apple juice great through those small rigid straws. He
refused sippee cups for a long time--it was as if he didn't want anything
masquerading as a breast in his mouth, but the straw was different enough
that he didn't feel threatened. He is now almost 4 (next month) and still
loves to breastfeed. Barb Otterson, in Wisconsin
