Is it possible this child has mild reflux? Mild enough that it's not a bother
with breastfeeding and other liquids? I have noticed some young babies with
reflux seem to have an overactive gag reflex and notice when my reflux flares
up I sometimes feel as though I have a 'lump in my throat'. Just a
thought.....brainstorming here!

Also, I agree that the child might do better feeding herself. My middle child
would only take solids when he could feed himself at about 10 to 11 months
old. I would leave a plate of suitable foods within his reach all day so he
could 'graze' ad lib. This also helped as he was always too 'busy' to sit down
for a meal. (at age 22 he still needs to be reminded to stop to eat) He also
had allergy problems and may have been protecting himself from allergic
reactions. Looking back I think he also had reflux and I had oversupply though he was
never diagnosed b/c we didn't look for that much then. He still has a
sensitive tummy, is lactose intolerant, and has irritable bowel syndrome. So I'd check
into GI problems and perhaps consult with a pediatric GI doctor. Hmmm, maybe
even a very mild pyloric stenosis? I've heard that occasionally breastfed
babies can have very mild cases b/c of the protection of breast milk although that
usually creates problems in the first few weeks. Rates of pyloric stenosis
are greater in formula fed infants so I'm assuming breastfeeding offers some
protection from it.
