I'm the Breastfeeding Coordinator of our WIC program. I've come across moms
in our population who outgrow their bras while pregnant and have to go
without (and who really need to support their growing heavy breasts) and some
who cannot afford nursing bras. I came up with the idea of requesting
donations of gently used bras and nursing bras to wash and recycle, but at
work I was told I could not do it because of the possibility of transmission
of the AIDS virus since it's found in breastmilk. Somehow I question this
because of what I've read about the fragility of the virus. I might be more
concerned with the transmission of Hepatitis or yeast. I would like some
supporting information to show the higher up or some input from others.
Please if you respond to lactnet also CC: me too at [log in to unmask] because
it might be months before I catch up on my reading lactnets.
