Dear friends,

I'm glad Catherine mentions this. In my (personal and professional) experience, a baby of a big-breasted mom can have a perfect latch while lying flat on his back on her lap. No need for mom to either lift and hold baby or breast. It all depends on the combination of model and size of both mom and baby.
I think we should get rid of advises that use only one position to be the right one (like "tummy to tummy" or "chest to chest"). For some dyads that just doesn't work. I word my teaching to moms and students as to look for a position in which both mom and child are comfortable and baby does not have to reach nor turn/bend any body part in order to take a deep mouthful of breast and keep it there.

Warmly,

Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in southern Netherlands

I try to help mom place the baby where the nipple naturally falls, so
there is no strain with gravity pulling downward and the baby trying to
hold on. It gets tiring for the mom's hand to hold her breast up as
well. Of course every mother and baby is different, and we all make the
best suggestions we can for each dyad.
