Just catching up and see that Jacquie quotes from "The Power of One".  A few
years ago this film was shot in Zimbabwe and yours truly was the Lactation
Consultant (paid!) for the breastfeeding scene.  The producer wanted it to
be authentic, and to include real "action shots" - he wanted a real baby
sucking on a real breast. The baby was white and the breast was to be black.
I'm not sure how they finally did it, and cautioned them about the
ingredients of any make-up which would be used, possible effects on the
baby, inappropriateness of a stranger nursing the baby, and in the end the
baby's real-life mother actually nursed the baby in the shot that was used.
We had long discussions about the technicalities of breastfeeding - the
producer was quite fascinated and I like to think ended up better educated
about breastfeeding as a result.
