Dear Friends:

April, the research shows that the benefits of partial breastfeeding lie in
between those of not breastfeeding at all and of exclusive breastfeeding.
Maybe that is where the answer to your question lies?

Although mixed feeds are risky; Coutsoudis discovered that it was the babies
receiving both human milk and formula that had the highest rates of HIV.
Babies exclusively breastfed and babies exclusively formula-fed both had
lower rates of HIV.

There are 3 categories of mixed feeds according to the Labbok/Krasovec
definitions: low, medium and high.

Kathy Dettwyler, I love what you wrote!! How do we stop the juggernaut of
craziness that purports to be made in the interests of public health and are
actually expressions of fear, denial, and corporate interests. If
breastfeeding at night is made to be dangerous because mums are afraid to
fall asleep with their babies, yet get sleepy because of the oxytocin
release, they are driven to use formula.

This makes me angry. Lack of breastfeeding is the number one factor to
emerge out of the infant death review work in my city.....so let's make sure
babies sleep in cribs?? WTF!!!

warmly,
