Hi Lactnetters! This is all new to me, so as I have said before, please
tolerate me. I have been reading the posts for a month or so, and now have
a question that pertains to a patient whose baby is in NICU, born at 25
weeks and 1 lb 8 oz. Mother has been pumping (baby now 3 weeks old,
recovered birth weight and gained one ounce) and feels that her milk is now
decreasing. I suggested that she ask the staff in the NICU to let her feed
directly as soon as the baby shows the ability to suck. I described
"Kangaroo" care and carefully recommended it. I also suggested that she
might pump both sides at once (Lawrence pg. 462). 2 questions:
        1. Might it be possible for her to ask them to weigh the baby before and
after the feed and forget the measured feedings? (Even though he is very
small).

        2. Aren't there some herbal preparations that are safe for the mother to
try and which seem to increase milk supply in some?

Thanks again. I tried my references, just came up with less than I'd like.\
