I've been talking to a mother on the phone that has a baby w/Down's
Syndrome. I went through the archives and found some info from years
ago and wanted to ask if anyone has anything new on weight gain.

I already have the Down's Syndrome growth charts for baby.

His weight gain is on the lower side.
Birth Weight 7# 2 oz
2 weeks 6# 5.5 oz
5 days later 7# 1.8 oz

He has a couple of holes in his heart and a heart murmur. Mother was
told 50/50 chance they would close up on their own.

He has some breathing issues, panting, grunting @ times, no sweating.

Baby is exclusively directly breastfeeding. Mom feels he gives good
feeding cues. She was pumping for awhile but has stopped. She prefers
to directly breastfeed and feels he is satisfied after feedings, does
get sleepy.

Stooling a few times a day

Mother feels things are going well. I've offered a home visit to
observe a feeding.

MD has told her to fortify her milk w/formula for weight gain. She
doesn't want to start pumping again but will if I suggest it. I left
it that I encouraged her to pump a couple of times a day while I
gathered more info.

I believe she would be willing to do cup feeding with expressed milk.

Sorry I don't have more info, haven't been working closely with her. I
would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you,
