Coming out of "usually not reading/occasionally reading but lurking" mode to chime in briefly on this topic.  Certainly the US breastfeeding campaign didn't get the support it needed, and wasn't allowed to go forward as originally planned.  At the same time, if it hadn't made an impression on a LOT of people, then we wouldn't be seeing the backlash against it that we are seeing (Joan Wolf's horrible article and the George Mason stats website rubbish, just to name two).  If breastfeeding wasn't making headway and if the campaign and other breastfeeding promotion activities weren't making people THINK about the consequences of their "choices" and weren't making them mighty damn uncomfortable, then we wouldn't be seeing this backlash.
