Lamaze International should be strongly congratulated for taking the stand
to bring their educational materials into Code compliance. This is a BIG
DEAL. I know several of the members of their Board of Directors fairly well,
and know that it's taken a long time to educate their colleagues on this
issue.

Lamaze International adopted ILCA's Position Paper on Infant Feeding back in
the early 90's, which was a HUGE, courageous step for the organization at
that time. However, the Directors were under a lot of pressure to not apply
the Code to feeding bottles and teats. Now they've taken that final step to
full compliance - Good for them!

I have been a long-term member of Lamaze International and am very proud to
remain associated with this fine professional association. Lamaze
International took a very strong (and expensive) leadership role in creating
the Mother-Friendly Hospital Initiative, which is now being carried forth by
the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS). More information on
the Initiative, which complements the BFHI, can be found at
www.motherfriendly.org.

I currently serve as ILCA's representative to CIMS.
