What are the new statisics on the beneftis of breastfeeding when moms
talk about the risk of breast cancer and how bf can lower their risk.
Paula

Paula, I don't know if you are refering to some specific new statistics. Phyll
Buchanan and I published "Breastfeeding and breast Cancer: research review" in
the UK publication Midwives' Journal in October 1998. The paper includes a
diagram of the conclusions of some of the most recent research. I'd also have
to say that, looking into it, the researchers were in no case very clear about
the style of breastfeeding undertaken by the women in the study.

It made sense to me and to Phyll that there could plausibly be a difference in
the protection a woman receives depending on how frequently she feeds, how soon
solids are introduced and how soon night feeding is curtailed. Some of the data
in recent studies was collected on women sho breastfed in the early and mid
eighties, which we remember as a time (in UK) of restrictions.

Is this publication available in the US? They have a website, but last time I
visited they had only got as far as putting the May 1998 journal on line. URL:
