Hi everyone, to celebrate WBW we developed a beautiful bulletin board IN
OUR MAIN LOBBY (this is a MAJOR accomplishment) in English and Spanish
with beautiful pictures some taken from Miriam Labbock's wonderful full
color booklet on LAM and also the NYSDOH Mary Cassatt breastfeeding
toddler poster etc.
And today at the WIC prenatal breastfeeding class we played
"Breastfeeding Jeopardy". Now for you purists, breastfeeding and jeopardy
don't seem to belong together, but for our moms, they realized that
jeopardy is the name of the game show and may not even know what the word
means. For those outside the US, Jeopardy is an extremely popular TV
game show where you are given the "answers" and the contestant has to
come up with the "question". So an "answer" was: "baby's perfect first
food". "Question: "What is colostrum" another answer was: "baby's first
immunization" of course this was a "trick" bec. the answer was also
colostrum! The moms gave very interesting answers: hepatitis, at two
months, but didn't come up with colostrum (my fault-I gave them cheat
sheets but forgot to go over that-the cheat sheets were the beautifully
done La Leche League of Manhattan meeting notice with the terrific
article by Denise Evarts, LLLL of Upper West Side and the Bill Summary of
Carolyn Maloney's breastfeeding Bill HR3531!) There were 16 "answers" Two
of them were probably not well worded bec. nobody got them...
It was great doing the game bec. I also went over the information with
each question and answer. The person who got the most points won a teddy
bear donated by my real estate agent Marge Brownstein (I have a whole bag
of prizes thanks to Marge, beautiful brand new stuffed bunnies and bears)
I used the bear at the class bec. it was so "baby-like". I also showed a
clip of the Coping withthe first week video which I am now doing at all
the classes. The video is too long to show in its entirety to the busy
WIC moms....The moms had a lot of fun, the winner was a fifteen year old
who needed a note from us bec. she was late to summer school....
Thanks to my son A. J. for helping me work up the game on his
computer....
Sorry this has been so long, but we had the best time today!
