Toni,

I have never personally had contact with a woman who was post menopausal
nursing an adopted baby, although I have known of a few who had lost
their ovaries, so they were essentially post-menopausal.

According to Jimmie Lynn Avery, there is controversy over whether such
women should or should not be on hormone replacement during induced
lactation. As far as I know, there is no clear answer.

I do know that there have been many cases of post-menopausal women from
more primitive cultures who have produced milk for grandchildren.

My guess would be that, as long as her pituitary is functioning
properly, she could probably expect to the same as most of us adoptive
moms: nurture the baby at the breast and provide some amount of
breastmilk, every drop of which is priceless!

You may want to contact Jimmie Avery at Lact-Aid. I'm sure she has seen
such cases in her 25 years of experience. Her homepage is
<www.lact-aid.com> and you can get to her E-mail from there.

Aloha,
Darillyn
