Hi all,
Remember a few weeks ago I posted about a client that had persistent yeast?
She is doing somewhat better, not completely cured but much improved. Thanks
to all that sent replies. One of the suggestions that I received was to
consider having her breastmilk cultured for possible bacterial infection
since yeast treatments did not completely cure her.
I have talked with her primary care provider and she is agreeable to doing
this but when she contacted the lab at our local hospital to find out how
and where to send the specimen, they said that they have never done a
breastmilk culture and could not guarantee results because "we might not do
it right". My question is does anyone know of or have a procedure/protocol
for collection of a sample for culture and also a protocol that I can share
with the lab so they know how to proceed with the culture.
I can't imagine that it is much different than sending any other specimen
for culture but I would like to share some specifics with them. Thanks in
advance for any information that is sent.
Thanks again,
Jodi Smart RN, IBCLC
in already hot Port St. Lucie Florida
