Just curious how many of you have been working with the increasing moms who have had weight loss surgery.? I am in the middle of a phenomenology research project regarding the lived experience of lactation and bariatric surgery.? So much research needs done. Will hope others start looking at their milk composition etc.? So many of them aren't committed.? Have only had one truly committed and when baby wasn't doing so well by 4 mo (obvious to me, but Ped was ok up to that point) she realized when her milk sat out there was never any fat.? Looked like sea water or watered down skim milk.? Another mom had the same experience.? The first mom was able to get fat in her milk but sublingual B12 in high doses.? The other mother despite her efforts could never get any apparent fat to appear in her milk.? Other mothers have stated they saw fat but just didn't trust the baby was getting enough. And then others state their milk never came in.?

One baby went through such extensive testings and biopsies for 3 months, the mother was racked with quilt when she noticed her pumped milk did not have fat.? She had previously breastfed 2 other children past a year each before her surgery.? The Ped never once thought it was mom, just assumed something was wrong with baby.

Just curious what everyone is experiencing in their practices?
