Dear Friends:
    I teach a childbirth class at night, in a room used by the medical
school. Tonight, I found a book which is being given away by the drug company
Merck. The book is "Managementa of Lipids in Clinical Practice" and is
published by Professional Communications, Inc.  It is enclosed with a letter
that says Merck is giving this book away as a service to the medical
community. The second paragraph of this letter says, in bold print, "This
textbook may contain information about unapproved uses for Merck products."
    In other words,  "Here is this free book from us that might talk about
using our products in an unapproved way." If Merck is concerned about this,
then why give the book away? Doesn't giving the book away imply approval?
    What do you all think? We certainly are hearing a lot about the off-label
use of Cytotec.
