We know this baby's father has allergies...but I am curious, does the mother as well? There is some evidence that moms with allergies/asthma have differences in their breastmilk. (Like less sIgA) But even if she does have allergies, no one should automatically suggest the baby be deprived of all of the wonderful stuff she DOES have in there provided the baby is happy and growing well.

I have seen many babies over the past 14 years who continue to have green and slimey stools despite what moms does or does not eat. As long as they are healthy (growing well) and happy (not in pain) I am comfortable watching them. It always resolves with time, but sometimes it takes months.

But I have also seen babies who are truly failing to thrive...not gaining well, and not comfortable. Sometimes these babies CAN be happy and grow better on an elemental formula, and sometimes they are no happier. (I suspect those babies are reacting to the corn syrup solids in the formula) But if they are not gaining well, are in pain and do not look well, I think they deserve endoscopy and biopsy to be sure they do not have eosinophilic esophagitis.

For this particular baby, I would suggest some probiotics...lactobacillus reuteri and lactobacillus rhamnosis gg in particular, if he is not already on them.
