We have had one of our MDs prescribe tincture of benzoin for sore nipples,
with directions to wipe off with alcohol prior to nursing.  YIKES!  This same
doc tells moms with mastities to not breastfeed for 24 hours.  YIKES again.

I'm an old NICU nurse, and we used tincture of benzoin to stick the monitor
leads to babies.  It smelled awful, was terribly sticky, and left residue
after the leads were removed.  I hated it, and hated getting it on my
fingers.  I can't imagine putting it on nipples.
