We are trying to develop breastfeeding policies specific to the NICU.
Unfortunately we have a neonatologist in charge who is not well informed on
breastfeeding - he believes these babies who are getting ready to be
discharged should just wake up on their own to nurse when they get hungry
enough. He does not believe in stimulating these babies even when the
interval is going many hours between feeding. We also have many situations
where the mothers cannot come in often enough to kangaroo care and encourage
breastfeeding.

The nurse practitioners are working on the new policies now. I do have the
ABM policy for preparing babies for discharge, but was also wondering if
anyone else might be willing to share their policies? Thank you in advance
for any information shared. Please send to me directly.
