Jan,
I agree that increasing the supply should help. How does he react to that
in the immediate sense ie. compression....or feeds where breasts are fuller?
Has she tried pumping between feeds during day since they are spaced so far?
With babies of this age or older I also often wonder if this has become a
power struggle of sorts between Mom and baby. Not in the traditional sense where
child vies for power but in a more age appropriate sense; Mom worries about
lack of feeding, tensely pushes baby to feed, baby feels this/begins to dread
feeding etc..... I have been shocked many times by parents who become terrified
by a baby's missed feeding or 2 or even 3.....-afraid they will starve or
dehydrate at 17lbs!
It has caused me to wonder how many mothers have abandoned breastfeeding d/t
this very fear.
Never mind the fact that it is profoundly disrespectful of the baby-it
infuriates me!, admittedly, however I may be way off track in terms of your
situation!
I have also found it to be much more of an issue with former
premies/medically fragile newborns.

Any suggestions for ME, on my post from a few days ago....:) -I only heard
back from 1 other-thankyou Kathy Eng!
