Dear Friends:

I was contacted today by the mother of a 10-week old who says that her
nipples have been constantly erect for a month, ever since she started
breastfeeding again after pumping and bottle-feeding for a long time due to
breastfeeding challenges.

I've not seen her yet. I've asked her to write out her story in
chronological order to bring to our first visit. I suspect vasospasm is part of the
picture, and want to hear from 3,000 experts if they have heard anything like
this.

She is in tears and ready to quit. I suggested going back to pumping and
bottle-feeding (as that didn't hurt) or taking a high dose of ibuprofen once or
twice and then taking a steady dose every 4 hours. She says that keeping her
nipples warm takes the edge off the pain, but that it is still miserable.

Has anyone heard of such a thing?

warmly,
