I appreciate most everyones comments regarding this situation. It is funny
how we can become so sensitive to the comments of others, isnt it. I am
thinking about the latest topics dealing with hospital LC's, WIC LC's,
private practice LC's and whether or not you are a RN or not, and how easy
it is to become offended depending on what position you find yourself in. I
agree with the person who stated that we should take care not to divide
ourselves, as we all need to work together and stay united. There really are
so few of us out there, and so many needed to make the necessary changes. I
found myself feeling very sensitive over some of the comments made in
regards to my statements, as well. I stated :" I kinda feel the baby has
other issues and that is why she is being so stubborn to take a bottle".

How dare I call a baby stubborn! ;-) But I didnt! I called her behavior
stubborn. Stubborn means resistance to change. I clearly didnt say: the
stubborn baby. I said she was being stubborn. She was resistance to
change. Resistant to taking a bottle. Good for her! Sad for her parents
situation.

I did receive some good guidelines on helping parents when babies refuse
bottles. I appreciate all you who sent me some concrete material that I can
use to further my career and my own knowlege base. That is what this
website is so incredibly useful for! We need to support each other, and not
tear each other down. Now with technology as it is, we can just "google" a
question, and have many answers at our fingertips. How many will we lose
to "google" because of our sharp answers and open criticisms?

We should also take into account that not everybody is as proficient in
stating clearly what they mean to say, and instead of blatantly rebuking
what you heard them say, consider writing to them directly and asking that
they clarify what they meant. I also think it is absolutely fine for us to
agree to disagree.........but it needs to be done in all kindness. (I do
not feel like I was rebuked with this bottle topic, this is just a blanket
statement coming from the time spent on lactnet)

I am amazed at how well those in the countries outside of the US speak and
type english. And I am so greatful that they can! I know that many outside
the US speak several languages, and I am in awe of you all! My view of the
world is slowly growing to encompass everyone out there! Sometimes as I sit
reading the digests, I imagine those outside of the US just skimming thru
all the topics, as we write like everyone on lactnet is in the US. (and I
am so guilty of this myself!) My latest request for help in Japan has shown
me how different our cultures are, and how ignorant I am to what the rest of
the world is like! This poor patient in Japan can't get APNO cream and we
can't be sure she is on the right antibiotic for her mastitis, because they
don't use the same medications over there, and things don't translate well
all the time. The world is a very BIG place, expecially to those who have
not had the pleasure to travel much. Lactnet has been my source of
binoculars to places outside of little ol' Texas and I am very appreciative
to the list mothers who have maintained this site for us all to enjoy.
