Dear Breastfeeding Advocates:
The Senate vote on Senate Bill 783, the Breastfeeding and Return to Work
bill, has been delayed until Monday, April 28th because some senators that
had previously supported the bill are now withdrawing support. They are
withdrawing support because the Association for Oregon Industries, an
association of Oregon businesses that has a paid lobbyist, has come out
against SB 783.
Let's not let this group of businesses stop our state from supporting
breastfeeding! If we want SB 783 to pass out of the Senate we must make a
concerted effort to contact all the Senators on Friday and Monday, and ask
for their votes in favor of passing this bill. Republican senators in
particular need to be contacted.
So please call your Senator on Friday, April 25th, and say,
"I am calling to ask Senator __________ to vote for Senate Bill 783 when
it comes to the Senate floor. How does Senator __________ plan to vote on
this bill?"
If the senator is in favor of the bill, tell them how much you appreciate
their support.
If the Senator is opposed, ask why and explain why you are in favor of
this bill and why you feel it is needed. Let them know that you live in
this senator's district and you want them to vote in favor of the bill.
Please email me with the names of any senators that are opposed to the
bill ASAP.
Please tell three other breastfeeding advocates to help us out by
contacting their senators.
