Medela's 40mm glass flanges are currently out of stock. This month I
happened to speak to a professional scientific glass blower in eastern
Washington State on the phone and asked whether he could manufacture custom
glass flanges for a pump. He said, of course he could. I explained only
40mm ones were available and then they were round and sometimes not quite
shaped like the mom's own nipple. Someone on Lactnet posted that their
client had oval nipple on one side.

Our store has two part dental type material to make a custom mold of a
womans nipple/aerola before mastectomy surgery in case she wishes to
replicate it for her prosthesis or reconstruction in case she decides not to
have the second stage nipple reconstruction surgery. He said that with that
rubber mold he could custom make a glass flange out of either tempered glass
or pyrex. He just needs the nipple mold and a sample flange that fits the
right pump end. He was quite intrigued by the process and was willing to be
helpful.
