Hi Pat;

From what I have seen, more people are studying in basic education programs - the kind that take 5-6 days to complete and require homework - or the excellent online education program. I see fewer self-taught people as the years pass.

And there are efforts to get us licensed - or at least there were until the Board trumped USLCA's Ace!!

Appearances are: the Board wants all IBCLCs who don't have that additional certification or licensure to be demoted into the new lower credential. Just try to get that one licensed in your state!

I think we ought to hear from LLLI on this turn of events. Talk about throwing the Baby out with the Bathwater! That's what the Board has done to LLLI - IMNSHO.

BTW: Saying "many mothers have found..." or showing published evidence for a practice or medication that is other than what your client's HCP has recommended or ordered, that IS contradicting the mother's HCP - by definition in the new SofP. This SofP makes it impossible to practice at ANY level of credential unless you have another certification or licensure. The Board HAS made the IBCLC an add-on credential for the existing medical profession.
