One of our biggest challenges is that so many moms expect information to be as exact for brastfeeding (and any child rearing topics) in the same way that information about medeications is exact. (Take one pill at 9 AM and another at 9 PM) Unfortunately for that attitude, babies are individuals! My favorite line is: "The only hard and fast rule is that there are no hard and fast rules!" For every guideline that may fit most situations,k there are exceptions. What may work for many doesn't work for all. Then there is the way different people can interpret the guidelines as shown in this current discussion about "Finish the first side first" which can mean so many different things depending on who is interpreting it!
