In a message dated 98-07-13 14:32:59 EDT, Nikki wrote, very interestingly,
about the Nurses Health Survey:

<< The number having breastfed for 4-12 months went up, reaching a peak for
the women born in the 50's and then dropped slightly in for those women born
in the
60's. This is also true for the women having breastfed for 12+ months: there
was an increase peaking for the women born in the 50's, then a slight
decrease. >>

Presumably the bf proportion of those born in the 1960s will increase over the
next few years relative to the nulliparous proportion, as these younger women
finish up their twenties and move through their early thirties -- especially
likely to be true considering the higher rates of bf generally in mothers over
thirty. (Maybe even increase in the total lifetime months of bf of those who
did have children, as all those 3-month-weaners have their second kids and the
months add up.)
