We are trying to move towards a more baby friendly environment. We are
about to implement a new breastfeeding policy, but are being asked to
make "fiscally responsible" compromises. The formula companies have said
that they will stop supplying any nipples, volufeeders, charting forms,
etc, unless we give out their discharge diaper bags. They have offered
a "Kaiser bag" for breastfeeding moms that is supposed to be free of
advertisement and formula. (I'll believe that when I see it). The freebies
mentioned above would cost the hospital approximately 250,000 a year to
provide. I need some help with several issues related to this:

1) I need to find another source of the Dubowitz charting form that Ross
provides.

2)I need to know more about the "Kaiser bags". Anyone out there use them?

3)Is there a way to offset the out of pocket cost for the things that the
formula companies provide free?

4) How have other baby friendly hospitals overcome these hurdles?

I honestly feel like we are being held hostage by these companies! Please
feel free to email me at [log in to unmask] Thanks!

Monda Fleming RN, IBCLC
