A curiosity from a breastfeeding culture:
I subscribe to a Norwegian news monitoring service which notifies me daily of
any mention of breastfeeding, breastmilk, and maternity leave, among other
things. It is spotty on foreign press, but good on Norwegian media.
The problem is, there is an expression here to describe things you've known or
done or believed in all your life, and it seems this expression is frequently
used in the press (like 3-4 times daily in a country of under 4.5 million
people). At any rate, at least half of the alerts I get are from interviews
with "newsworthy" people about why they are in the news, because whatever it is
they do, be it sing hymns or run cross-country or be active in politics, is
something they "got along with their mother's milk".
So far I don't think a single alert of this kind has led me to a relevant news
article about breastfeeding!
