I got a call from a mom who wants to lose weight (she wants to take a GNC
product called chitosan, which is just ground up crustaceans, but that's
another story). She asked why it was dangerous to lose weight while
breastfeeding.

I said it's not dangerous to lose weight, it's just important not to lose
weight too fast and I read to her about of the Breastfeeding Answer Book on
weight loss, about the pesticides and PCBs stored in our body fat, etc.

She wanted to know how these would affect the baby if she did lose weight
rapidly and the pesticides and pcbs got into her breastmilk, and I couldn't
answer her.

Does anyone have an answer for this?
