Dear Friends:

When I first started working in breastfeeding, I heard/read (? after 30+
years of working).....that breastfeeding didn't protect children from allergies
so much as it postponed the development of allergies. If the baby has one
allergic parent, there is something like a 60% chance for the baby to have
allergies; if it is both parents it is close to 100% chance.

The benefit is that it is a lot easier to care for a kid sick with allergies
than a baby sick with them.

Would someone more expert than I cast a glance over the lovely 17-year
prospective study done by Saarinen {Lancet 1995 Oct 21;346(8982):1065-9] and see
how it holds up today?

warmly,
