Just wanted to add some food for thought to this discussion. I have been a
working breastfeeding mother and then was able to cut my hours to do all my
feedings (by the time they were four months old) with my second and third
babies, rather than pump (sweet kids, they started waiting for me). It was
a choice I made and a choice I was grateful to have. But it took me awhile
to get there, possibly because there is much cultural influence that women
can, and should work. My thought now is this, if there is evidence that
actual breastfeeding does significantly benefit mothers and babies, are we
strong enough as professionals to make that assertion? It's not politically
correct, but don't parents deserve to know that and then make their own
choices for their kids? Like breastfeeding, it may be more of a stretch and
involve some creative planning and choices. I'm not suggesting that we
throw out the baby with the bath water, but maybe, just maybe, all is not
equal in the realm of working and breastfeeding.

By the way, I'd sooner quit than bring my kids to my office, where there are
more than enough germs to go around.

Respectfully,
