Hi Joyce

My thoughts are this - it is only because she is expressing that this mother
is seeing the colour of her milk. If she were not expressing she'd never
know, and neither would anyone else. There appears to be nothing wrong and
this is likely one of the variants of normal. My guess it that this is in
response to the bruising. No pain, the baby is not objecting - no problem.

The mother will be so relieved when you reassure her.

I visited with a lady today who is 3 days postpartum. She says that she is
pumping rose colored milk. Her pumping is minimal and for comfort after
nursings. Her breasts are bruised bilaterally (high on the breast, and more
bruising noted laterally, no nipple bruising) Denies pain, great latch, no
nipple breakdown. Any ideas? I have never seen this. Mom is taking no
blood thinners, steriods or ASA only PNVs Joyce Maybin, RNC, IBCLC, RLC
