In Response toLInda Pohl:
During the past year several of the physicians in my hospital have
seen Dr. Jain's video and that seemed to be the single most powerful
turning point to open their minds to the question of frenotomy. In a way
I can understand their receptiveness on a Dr. to Dr. level and can
respect that. If the pediatrician you are dealing with is not trained in
the procedure, and thus uncomfortable with it, perhaps you can refer the
family tosomeone who is willing to do it, and/or let the peds doc know
who he can refer to who is comfortable with doing it. I don't expect
every doc to be willing or to know how to perform frenotomies, I do hope
to have a handful of docs at my hospital who can do it to whom other docs
can refer. And just that is well on the way.
Two weeks after the Grand Rounds presentation on tongue tie last
October at my hospital, there was a Mom/baby pair who were having
problems with pain with nursing, the peds doc referred to an FP to
perform the frenotomy....Wow...the proper channels worked! A big hurdle
seems to have been overcome and the possibility of frenotomy is becoming
more accepted and "mainstream".
Good luck, it can be like paddling upstream in a strong current.
