I realize that lots of people feel uncomfortable still nursing in
public, and I agree there should be places for them, but I rarely use
them (i.e. if I need the restroom at a local mall, there is an adjoining
room for nursing...completely apart from the toilets, behind a closed
door, carpeted, with lazy-boy chairs etc., and I have used that on the
odd occasion that I already was in the restroom, so this place was the
nearest where I could find a seat to sit to nurse), but I don't seek
them out. To get to this specific restroom in the mall, you might have
to trapse across the whole mall, with screaming hungry baby in tow. I
don't feel like doing that, so I don't.

While at Wal-mart, I've nursed on several occasions, and I generally
seek out the shoe section for that (not so far to trapse with said
screaming baby, as the store is much smaller than the shopping mall
itself!), as the shoe sections have small padded benches for trying on
shoes. There is also a bench near the cash registers that I've used
once, and I do go into the McDonalds that is there once in a while if I
want something to eat/drink myself anyhow, then I sit and nurse before
feeding myself...but in general, the shoe section is best I find. ;-)

That said, I do think Wal-Mart could make a bigger effort to provide
somewhere to nurse in private, for those who really want to do that.

Fio.
