It is my experience that low-fat diets do negatively affect the fats in the 
mother's milk hence the weight gain of the baby.  I know that there is 
research showing this to not be the case, but I did read in Ruth Lawrence's 
fourth edition of Breastfeeding ; A Guide for the Medical Profession that 
the kind of fats in a mother's diet has an effect on the composition of 
fats in her milk. She said that a mother needs fats and cholesterol foods 
in order to make fat that adds weight to baby. I don't know if that 
information is in her later editions.

I base my practice on this premise and my experience when there is a 
slow-gaining baby.  Positive outcomes are 100%.  It even worked for a 
Bonobo (pygmy chimpanzee) at the Milwaukee County Zoo.  I gave the 
zoo-keeper the recommendations that I give my clients and it worked 
amazingly well.

I plan to write this case up for the Globe or JHL sometime.  Since it is 
based on experiential evidence and not the desired highly referenced 
evidence I am unsure where to send it. It is very exciting though.

I am presently working with 3 mothers (human) whose babies are not gaining 
adequately and with adding appropriate fats the babies are beginning to gain.
