Do you wonder if, perhaps, one of the reasons the formula companies are so
hot to get the ad campaign changed is because if parents KNEW, via an ad
campaign, that NOT breastfeeding would increase the risk of X, Y, & Z, that they
would be so angry for not knowing this that they would sue, particularly if their
baby happened to get X, Y, & Z. And of course, the AAP would go right along
w/ it because if the parent sued the formula company for withholding vital
information, they'd also sue the pediatrician if there was no documentation on the
chart that the parent had been informed of the risks of not breastfeeding.

Now THAT'S an idea -- make it mandatory to chart on the OB doc/CNM record
that the risks of not breastfeeding have been discussed w/ the patient; also have
to chart on the hospital record for the mom, and chart the same on the
hospital record for the baby.....

You know, sorta like if you have surgery, there is a consent form on the
chart that says all the risks have been discussed with the patient, including A,
B, & C, and all the way up to death.....

Thinking when I should be working.....
