Michelle, you may want to contact La Leche League (LLL) in your area. Many
women who breastfeed past one year go to its meetings. Also, the leaders in
the group can give you other resources in your area, such as an Attachment
Parenting group, a group for moms and nursing toddlers, etc. Some LLL
groups have workers (helpers) who are called League Moms or Group Moms.
They usually have been with the group for a year or more, and are
breastfeeding 2, 3, 4 … year olds and can be a great help to you. My
daughter, who is breastfeeding her 17 month old, reminded me recently that
the average age for weaning is 5 years; that’s worldwide, not in all
individual countries. When my daughter was a toddler, she weaned at 2½
years of age and I thought that was a long time, until I learned
differently. Then I thought she weaned at an early age for what is the
natural norm. I hope this helps.
