Dear Friends:
Lots of comments on this; wonderful.
What is truly needed is a clinical trial of safety and efficacy of
modifying a syringe versus a baby versus a pump to see what really works.
This clinical trial should include a significantly significant sample and a
well-established consistent protocol and evaluation.
Otherwise all this discussion is just that, discussion and 'what
worked for me' which is a necessary and valuable part of the research
process, and not enough to be taken as higher order evidence.
I am reminded of the Alexander study (and the follow-up clinical
trial) that found prenatal nipple preparation (Hoffman exercises and/or
breast shields) to actually reduce breastfeeding initiation and duration.
       Warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, MSN, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CIMI, CCE, craniosacral therapy
