I am currently working on a Random Controlled Trial (RCT) related exactly to delaying the bath and breastfeeding.  I am not currently seeing any big differences in rates however it isn't done and there are other reasons to delay the bath and avoid separation i.e. maintaining core temperature, promoting skin to skin, the protective effect of vernix and maintaining blood glucose levels in susceptible infants to name a few. Currently, the National Institute of Health in the USA recommends delaying the newborn bath for at least 12 hours.  I am hoping to be done with data collection in the next 2 months.
