Dear all
One of the Paeds at my hospital recently told a group of health
professionals that it was unacceptable for breastfeeding mothers to take
SSRI's. I really need the latest information on this please - any research
would be very helpful. he also stated that he would prefer any infant of his
(if they were withdrawing from narcotics) to have formula rather than have a
few weeks of morphine therapy. This guy is pretty influential and has been
spoken to before about his attitude to breastfeeding without change.

I am also having a major problem with our anaesthetics department - they
want to trial morphine Patient Controlled analgesia pumps post caesarean. At
the moment we use PR voltaren and im morphine prn. I have been asked to
write a directive to maternity staff about the care of breastfeeding women
post c/section with regard to how this might impact on successful
breastfeeding - anything you can suggest would be gratefully received.
much appreciated
