I am a Family Physician and a new subscriber to LactNet. Here is the
situation on which I would like advice: a mother is nursing her 14 month old
child. The mother was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease, an autoimmune
disease triggered by eating gluten. Unfortunately, her disease is not
improving with gluten avoidance and she has many other food sensitivities.

Could nursing be contributing to a pro-inflammatory state for her body, that
would be perpetuating her autoimmune symptoms? Does the state of lactation
alter gut permeability, which could also be worsening her symptoms?

I appreciate your thoughts.
